6. Sword Refurbishment

  • The Consumer agrees that all sword refurbishment work is undertaken by the Provider with goodwill and everything to preserve, maintain and enhance the Consumers sword condition, heritage and longevity will be done, however often due to the nature and severity of previous damage results can be limited.
  • Sword refurbishment is an extremely difficult process, only undertaken by trained and experienced cutlers. Due to the complex nature of the work, the expertise and knowledge required is not always available in the United Kingdom. The Provider has established a network of approved International Sword Cutlers with specific skills and access to rare materials, often not available in the United Kingdom. The Consumer agrees, that the provider reserves the right to send either the whole item or parts of the item abroad to be completed by our network of International Sword Cutlers based on our assessment (of work required) and without express permission of the Consumer.
  • The Consumer understands that a FULL REFURBISHMENT is exactly that and the whole sword will be restored to a parade state unless otherwise requested by the consumer.
  • The Consumer agrees, that expectations must remain realistic and that, when working with previously used and damaged items, it is often impossible to return them to their original state.
  • The Consumer agrees that in the process of refurbishment any broken, missing or degraded parts will be replaced.
  • The consumer agrees, that any degradation to an area that encompasses the etching on the blade, cannot be removed in isolation without further damage to the etching.
  • The Consumer agrees, that if the steel of the blade is degraded in any way, a request to remove any degradation, is at the Consumers risk and if the degradation is found to be severe a layer of nickel plate is to be applied to seal the damage immediately.
  • The Consumer agrees, that (unless specifically stated) no permission of the Consumer is required to nickel plate the blade, if not to do not so (immediately) would compromise the preservation of the steel.
  • The Consumer agrees, any further damage caused when attempting to remove damage, rust, degradation, or blackening is at the Consumers risk and not the responsibility of the Provider.
  • The Consumer agrees, if severe steel degradation is found and requires immediate sealing in order to maintain the integrity of the blade. A layer of nickel plate can be applied to the blade (immediately) and without the express permission of the consumer.
  • The Consumer agrees, and accepts that (depending on the severity of degradation) to the blade that the application of nickel plate (which may be essential to seal the blade from any further damage) may reduce the original etchings of the blade.
  • The Consumer agrees, that any reduction or loss of original inscriptions, (stamped, etched or engraved) or sword blade etching is at the risk of the Consumer and NOT the responsibility of the Provider.
  • The Consumer agrees, that any reduction or loss of original blade etchings or inscriptions when nickel plate is applied is at the risk of the Consumer and NOT the responsibility of the Provider.
  • The Consumer agrees, that any reduction or loss of original etchings or inscriptions when gold plate is applied is at the risk of the consumer and NOT the responsibility of the Provider.
  • The Consumer agrees that if nickel plate is applied (to preserve the blade) that the original etchings or engravings cannot be re-etched due to the sealing process.
  • The Consumer agrees, that due to the nature of sealing the blade with nickel plate, once this work is undertaken the application CANNOT be reversed.
  • The Consumer agrees that, if (at) the express wish of the Consumer to attempt to reverse the process of nickel plate, the Provider takes NO responsibility for the results and the full cost of the works will be charged to the Consumer.
  • The provider will endeavour to meet deadlines; however, completion can take much longer to reach due to the complex nature of the work, with initial times often overrunning. Therefore, the Consumer agrees that the Provider is not responsible for delivery by a specific date, only when the work is fully complete.
  • The Consumer accepts that delays are often out of the Providers control, due to external factors including, a specific sword cutler not being available, availability and delivery of materials from/or sending items oversees, the sourcing of materials, material prices and higher priority work, such as State Funerals, State Coronations and Military graduation parades.
  • The provider reserves the right to send either the whole sword or parts of the sword to approved specialist sword cutlers in different countries.
  • The Consumer agrees, that any loss of items whilst in the Providers possession will be compensated with cover up to £500.00 depending on the value of the item. The value of the item is assessed by the Provider.
  • Although estimates of completion are given, they are neither binding, nor contratual due the complicated nature of the work involved. The Consumer understands and agrees (that due to the nature of the work), delays are inevitable, and that the provider (working with the best intentions) will not be held responsible for missing proposed deadlines or substantial delays in the return of a refurbished item.
  • The Consumer agrees that, due to the nature of the work undertaken, all work requested by the Consumer and conducted by the Provider will be paid for in full. No refund will be issued by the Provider on any work conducted due to the variable results involved in restoration and/or any form of delay in return of the item.
  • The Consumer agrees that updates on the progress of the sword will not be sent by the Provider whilst restoration is in progress, only on completion.
  • The Consumer agrees that all work undertaken is done at the Consumers risk.
  • It is assumed that, on agreement of price and Possession of Written Permission to conduct refurbishment/restoration, that the Consumer has read and agreed to the above terms and conditions of work.

7. Complaints

8. Legalities

  • The Provider is not responsible for any health or safety concerns once the Consumer has received the item.
  • If any harm is incurred from the items purchased by the Consumer, the Provider shares no responsibility or liability.
  • The Consumer agrees that the purchase of a Military Sword is for ceremonial or display purposes only. In order to comply with the terms of the Offensive Weapons Act 2019 the Consumer will be required to provide proof of ID to be verified by a sales consultant before a bladed item can be purchased or dispatched from Crown Swords Ltd.
